Biography

Hello and Welcome to the final year of elementary school ... Grade 6,

My name is Stephanie MacKay and I am one of three grade 6 teachers at Mother Teresa School. Let me give you a little background about myself...

I graduated from the TEN program at GPRC/University of Alberta in 2008. I am currently taking my Masters in Education from University of Calgary, specializing in 2nd language acquisition. I began my teaching career in Fairview at St. Thomas More where I Iived for nearly 20 years. At STM, I taught 1 year of grade 5 and then 4 years of grade 7 with a bit of grade 9 ELA mixed in. I was also the special education coordinator for STM, a K to grade 12 school during that time. In 2013 my husband and I moved to Grande Prairie. I was transferred to Mother Teresa where I have been teaching grade 6 ever since. For whatever reason, I seem to keep failing grade 6 so here I am again teaching for the 5th consecutive year.

I am married to a teacher, Peter MacKay, who will be teaching at St. Clement's this year and I have 2 grown children: Alex, my daughter, is attending the University of Calgary persuing her 2nd degree following in the footsteps of her parents, and Nickolas works as a chef in Edmonton. After my children moved out Peter and I decided to acquire a fuzzy baby, Fezzik, whom we now spoil.

I truly enjoy the outdoors and spend all the time I can outside doing any number of activities: cycling, kayaking, sailing, hiking, running, swimming, cross country skiing, downhill skiing and camping just to name a few. I have coached a competitive swim team for 25 years, and during my teaching career, I have devoted my coaching to basketball primarily, but some volleyball, badminton, track and field and cross country running as well. In addition to coaching sports teams, I have also participated in exchange programs with both STM and Mother Teresa now. Last year I had the privilege of taking my students to Montreal for an incredible learning experience.

I look forward to meeting you all and working with a fabulous classroom of grade 6 students.

Cheers,

Mrs. Stephanie MacKay
