Kash was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease at 13 months, after spending 9 months searching for what made him different from others. Mitochondrial diseases are chronic (long-term), genetic, often inherited disorders that occur when mitochondria fail to produce enough energy for the body to function properly. (Inherited means the disorder was passed on from parents to children.) Mitochondrial diseases can be present at birth, but can also occur at any age. Mitochondrial diseases can affect almost any part of the body, including the cells of the brain, nerves, muscles, kidneys, heart, liver, eyes, ears or pancreas.
Kash’s symptoms of the disease are severe hypotonia ( low muscle tone) which prevents him from holding his head up, the hypotonia runs throughout his full body, there for giving him feeding issues, so in turn he has a feeding tube to ensure he gets the proper nutrition and hydration he needs.
Kash overall is the happiest little boy, who loves being around other kids, and is loving being apart of Mother Teresa and having his big brother Karter and big sister Kalli at his side.
September 19th - 25th is mitochondrial disease awareness week, so please show your green to raise awareness and shine light on this disease and Kash!
